He took Konan hostage and told Nagato that he would spare her if he killed Yahiko. However, this fame spread to the leader of the Village Hidden in the Rain, Hanzo. Nobody could oppose them and if they did, they would ‘wind up dead’. To ensure a just, warless world, the three set out and quickly became popular and founded a team called the Akatsuki with Yahiko as its leader. Nagato, Konan and Yahiko met after their parents died due to the Second Shinobi War.Īfter three years, Jiraiya left them and returned to the leaf village, entrusting their own future to themselves. He realized the errors in his way with the help of Naruto, sacrificing his own life to restore the lives he took in Konoha.Īs a child, Madara Uchiha transplanted his Rinnegan in Nagato’s eyes, leaving him as a vessel for his eyes which he can claim upon his revival. He ultimately gives life back to everyone in the leaf village, including Kakashi Hatake, who was another mentor of Naruto that Pain had murdered. He had a traumatic past, which is not an excuse for what he did, but something that the viewers can sympathize with. His situation was entirely consequential, where he was led to believe that he had to do what he did. However, Pain was not entirely a bad person. He is responsible for a lot of things, including the murder of his own and Naruto’s mentor, Jiraiya, the destruction of the leaf village and murdering members of the leaf village in exchange for information of Naruto’s whereabouts. Pain was the head of the Akatsuki, a criminal organisation that sought the power of the tailed beasts. Nagato has a lot of aliases in Naruto Shippuden, one of them being Pain as it is more of a concept than a person, “The Six Paths of Pain”. Pain aka Nagato belongs to the Uzumaki clan and is one of the main villains in Naruto.
